Continuing from the previous article which discussed the history of the first generation Avanza car in Indonesia, now we will discuss the second generation Avanza.
The second generation Avanza was launched in Indonesia on November 9 2011 where its development was again led by Kaoru Hosokawa, chief engineer from Toyota. According to Toyota in South Africa, the Avanza has been made 20 kg (44 lb) lighter, including the use of anti-roll tires, improved air conditioning regulators and electric power steering, the vehicle is reported to have major improvements in fuel efficiency.
The second generation Avanza is available in four types: 1.3 E, 1.3 G, 1.5 G, and 1.5 Veloz (replaces the 1.5 S type).
On May 15 2013, all Avanza types were equipped with Dual SRS Airbags and seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force-limiters.
At the launch of the second generation Avanza, Mitra Mobil was present to enliven the world of car rental in Jakarta, from the beginning of Mitra Mobil's presence, Avanza car rental has dominated the demand for car rental in West Jakarta, car rental in Central Jakarta, car rental in North Jakarta, car rental in South Jakarta and rental East Jakarta car.
In November 2016, Toyota Astra Motor launched the Toyota Transmover (or equivalent Avanza 1.3 J) for use in the commercial market, such as online taxis. For use as a taxi, the Transmover replaces the Vios-based Limo Sedan. After the Avanza was given a facelift in 2019, the Avanza Transmover returned to using the face of the 2015 model Avanza, but experienced changes from the 2019 Avanza, such as revised suspension settings, digital AC and a shark fin model antenna.
When the third generation Avanza goes on sale in November 2021, the Transmover will be the only second generation Avanza on sale, and specifically for the Commercial market. Transmover production and sales end in January 2023.
From 2006 to 2019 and 2021, the Avanza was the best-selling passenger car in Indonesia. As of December 2019, the Avanza had sold around 1.8 million units in Indonesia.
